Noemi Mendez

About

I’m an experienced educator with over 27 years in Iowa, passionate about fostering culturally responsive learning. I began my career as a teacher associate while earning my degree from Drake University, where I later completed my master’s in literacy education and specialist program in educational leadership. Currently, I’m pursuing a doctorate in Culturally Responsive Leadership.

I’ve held roles ranging from kindergarten and middle school English Language teacher to Curriculum Coordinator and administrator. As an interim principal, I led efforts that resulted in one of the highest English Language Learner (ELL) success rates in the district. In addition to my work with Des Moines Public Schools, I teach online courses at Grand View University, have taught English abroad, and authored bilingual children’s books. With a strong commitment to education and leadership, I’m excited to continue growing and contributing to the field.
